Nail fungus is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of the fingernail or toenail. As the fungal infection goes deeper, nail fungus may cause the nail to discolour, thicken and crumble at the edge. Nail fungus can also be called onychomycosis and tinea unguium.
Nail fungus is particularly hard to remove using anti-fungal creams and oral medications typically because the fungal infection grows beneath the infected nail’s surface. It may take several months to show signs of improvement and continuous usage of creams treatments may also cause side effects. Therefore, it is best to consider laser nail fungus treatment. The laser (intense light beam) destroys the fungus under the nail.
Remember that results are not immediate. It can take as long as 6-12 months for toenails to grow out. Toenails infected by a fungus grow even slower, so be patient. As the nail grows out, you will begin to see a healthy and clear nail plate.
